Challenging, daring, breath taking, ingenious, quirky, edgy
WOW
ROLL UP ROLL UP, LAST CHANCE TO SEE
Go NOW to the Recognise Exhibition, 1 Thane Villas, Seven Sisters Road. Open 1pm to 7pm Wednesday to Sunday until 7th September, nearest tube Finsbury Park, Vicotria, Piccadilly or mainline trains.
A recently vacated workshop is the setting for Recognise an exhibition curated by the forth right Predrag Pajdic, a man with a serious nose for talent and a passion for the Midde East. Pajdic chose the setting of Finsbury park precisely becasue it is the cultural cocktail of his exhibition.
The low rumble of machinery, the repetitive shouts from a group of filmed Israeli bathers, low lights, the click and shunt of the slide projecter’s shuttle, an ominous red glow, moving images seen at once from behind a metal grille all create a sense of work, a sense of unease.
Fantastic art, showing the depth and scale of creators Arab, Israeli, Muslim, Christian and European (whatever that really means).
The exhibiton shows us aspects of a life unknown to us: the poignant video by Rabih Mroue “Face A/ Face B” about the recorded tapes sent between friends and family under siege and now dead. What it feels like to live abroad and recieve images and messages from home in “Jenin Journal” by Sagi Groner.
The exhibition juxtaposes life and religion, truth and falsehood, it makes us think. Workers break the Ramadan fast taking iftar and we see an image of The Last Supper, in Ayman Ramadan’s “Iftar”.

Full of irony, Hilda Hiary’s installation “Tarabish”, above, could be a message for Turkey this week.
Mohammed Abdulla’s “Green Zone” installation, an awkward corner marked by tape with dusty plants conjures the claustrophonia of Baghdad’s infamous Green Zone.
Enough of my comment - go to the exhibition here is the link for a map http://www.multimap.com/maps/#t=l&map=51.5603,-0.11264|16|4&loc=GB:51.5603:-0.11264:16|n7 7ph|N7 7PH
